Languages: your passport to the world

20 October 2018, 11:00 – 17:00

Rooms SG1 & SG2, Alison Richard Building, 7 West Road, Cambridge CB3 9DT

The MEITS team is delighted to announce that it will be hosting an event for the Cambridge Festival of Ideas in 2018!

We use languages every day, probably without even thinking about it… but what can we learn from the stories that lurk beneath the surface of our common knowledge about languages? For example: which are the hardest languages to learn? Can a language ever be “pure”? How and why is the language we use in a text message or on social media different from the way we speak? Which languages in the world have the most speakers?

Our hands-on activities will help you explore these questions and more... This is a family-friendly event particularly suited for children in late primary/early secondary school. Come and find out about the weird and wonderful world of languages! We look forward to seeing you!
