Conference on Bilingualism and Launch of the Cambridge-CUHK Joint Laboratory for Bilingualism

The International Conference on Bilingualism: Language and Heritage was held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong on 18-19 December 2017. It was an inaugural conference that officially launched the newly established University of Cambridge-Chinese University of Hong Kong Joint Laboratory for Bilingualism (JLB). Dr Boping Yuan (co-investigator on strand 5), Dr Yongcan Liu (co-investigator on strand 4) and Dr Yanyu Guo (postdoc research fellow on strand 5) were invited to present their research and on-going MEITS projects at this event.

The conference featured two panels that attracted a wide ranging audience from diverse disciplines, as well as the general public. The event brought together researchers and practitioners from various countries including Australia, UK, USA, Hong Kong and Singapore, to give an international perspective on issues in nurturing bilingualism in early childhood and heritage bilingualism across diverse contexts. The joint lab stimulates new collaborative opportunities and marks an important step forward in the study of the acquisition of Chinese across the lifespan, which is a main research topic of METIS strand 5 project.
