As a PhD student working with Strand 6 of the MEITS project, Katie is examining the impact of bilingualism on children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Her work seeks to illuminate the school experience of children who have ‘English as an Additional Language’ (EAL) and a diagnosis of autism. By adopting a multi-informant, phenomenological approach, this research also aims to delineate the perspectives of parents and teachers of bilingual children with ASD. Katie comes to Strand 6 with three years’ experience as a Modern Foreign Languages teacher in Oxfordshire and Yorkshire, and as a former translation trainee at the European Parliament.
