Profile:

Mícheál specialises in Irish and Scottish Gaelic language and literature, and has published in the fields of onomastics (the study of names), dialectology, and cultural and literary history. In the context of this project, Mícheál has a particular interest in language and identity; through his role as Director of the Northern Ireland Place-Name Project, he has engaged extensively with the community in Northern Ireland on issues relating to linguistic diversity and social cohesion (and has spoken on these topics in the Northern Ireland Assembly and elsewhere).
