Alim is a Research Associate on the Strand 5 of the MEITS project, which examines the role of age, language-specific factors and learning experience in language acquisition. Upon completing an MA in Applied Linguistics at Beijing Foreign Studies University, Alim came to Cambridge where he first did an MPhil and later a PhD in linguistics. His PhD thesis investigated the role of language-specific vs. universal cognitive factors in Uyghur-Chinese early successive bilingual children’s development of spatial language. As part of the Strand 5, he will focus on the acquisition of Chinese and Polish as a second language in the UK context.
