As a PhD student within Strand 6 of the MEITS project, Katie’s research examined the impact of bilingualism on children on the autism spectrum. Her work sought to illuminate the school experience of children who have ‘English as an Additional Language’ (EAL) and a diagnosis of autism. It also aimed to delineate the perspectives of parents and teachers, adopting a multi-informant, phenomenological approach. Katie came to Strand 6 with three years’ experience as a Modern Foreign Languages teacher in Oxford and Yorkshire, and as a former translation trainee at the European Parliament.
