Daniel is a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant at Queen’s University, Belfast. In 2016 he completed his PhD which examined innovation in the lexis of multi-ethnic youth peer groups in urban French. He is working on strand 3 of the MEITS project, and his research centres on the perceptions of the French public towards urban French as spoken in diverse, multilingual and multicultural contexts. This raises questions of contested national and ethnic identities and allows for an investigation of non-standard French as a site of social fracture and protest, set against a backdrop of historically purist monolingual French language policy.
